New String Orchestra

A new string orchestra is being formed in Cedar Rapids! The Cedar Rapids Community Orchestra (CRCO) in partnership with Kirkwood Community College and Schultz Strings is pleased to announce a “strings only” program for those who may never have played in a group setting or haven’t played in years.

Doug Steinmetz, the president of the CRCO said, “We’re gearing up for our 10 th Anniversary Season and in review we realized that there may be a great many viola, cello, bass and violin players who would like to play in a group setting, but might feel the CRCO music too intimidating. This group is for them.” Steinmetz went on to say, “We’re hoping this will provide an opportunity for folks to make new friends while challenging themselves. And unlike the current CRCO, we are also inviting private school and homeschool students who don’t have a local orchestra program to use this group to continue playing in the future.

The intent is to recruit string players from all over Linn and the surrounding counties, not just Cedar Rapids, as many musicians don’t have opportunities to play in their community.

For those who join the group, Schultz Strings on Twixt Town Road in Cedar Rapids is offering a free check-up for anyone’s instrument that’s been sitting in the closet! It’s time to dust it off and join the fun.

Tyros Orchestra rehearsals will resume at Kirkwood College (Choir Room) on Mondays at 5:30-6:30pm, starting on August 28.
